Yolena Alonso
Born in Havana, Cuba in 1978, to a legendary family of artists who have greatly influenced Cuban culture, Yolena Alonso is renowned in the dance scene as a successful choreographer and artistic director.
A graduate of the Academia del Maestro Narciso Medina in Havana, her career blossomed at the time she was a member of the academy’s dance company and she made her mark as a solo dancer, teacher, and choreographer.
In 1998, she joined the creative team at Stella Musicals – the largest musical production company in Hamburg, Germany.
In 1999, she founded a contemporary dance company, YOLDANCE, recruiting fresh Cuban dance school graduates. Yolena Alonso as a company has performed over 200 choreographed pieces which trademark the soul of Cuba, in a dynamic play and uniquely experimental style, which have premiered in great cities throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia and have been met with great public and critical acclaim – a testament to her talent.
Yolena Alonso is an artist who dreams, creates, and lives to advance dance as an expression of culture which is integral to human development and understanding.
